Karva Chauth’s story is well known to all as it tells the story of queen Veervati who was the only sister to her seven brothers, and was too pampered and praised by her family reason being that she was the only daughter and sister amongst her seven brothers.
When Veervati grows older she got married and spent her first Karva Chauth at her parent’s house. And while fasting she began to feel dizzy and fainted due to the reason that she had not eaten the whole day long.
Seeing this situation her brothers planed to get her to eat, as they all loved her too much. so they erected a mirror on a tree in such a way that it looked like the moon has risen behind the tree.
The whole idea behind this was to get their sister to eat and gain her energy back. On seeing the moon Veervati queen started eating. On her first bite she had a sneeze, and on the second there was a hair in the food, and when she ate her third bite the news of her husband’s death arrived.
This broke Veervati’s heart and she rushed to see her husband, and on the way, she met Shive-Parvati who enquired about her situation and Veervati explained to her the whole story that what had happened to her.
Shiva-Parvati immediately knew what had happened and told Veervati of her brother’s trickery. And explained to her to repeat her Karwa Chauth again and break it at the right time and her husband will be back and alive again.
So Veervati repeated the same and found her husband alive again.
